Harry Walker, from the American Red Cross, visited the club on Wednesday, March 16.

The first thing that usually comes to mind when speaking of the American Red Cross is "Bloodmobiles." In actuality, the American Red Cross goes way beyond blood donations. Other programs include; instruction in First Aid and CPR, Infant and Child CPR and Baby-Sitting classes as well as Professional Training courses for EMTs, Firefighters, Life Guards, Dentists, Nurses, Rescue Teams and Paramedics.

The American Red Cross is also on hand for the military at time of deployment and return. They also put "Wounded Kits" together for soldiers who are hospitalized and when individual soldiers are needed to return for family emergencies, the American Red Cross expedites the paperwork.

Our local American Red Cross is a part of the Charleston chapter that serves seven counties - three of which are handled from our Bluffton office (Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton Counties.) Currently, there are 180 volunteers and one paid staff member. Out of every dollar donated to the local chapter, 91 cents goes back into service.

All volunteers are professionally trained and heed the two hour mandate to arrive on the scene of house fires, drowning, natural disasters, etc.
