Hero, Scholar, Musician, Athlete, Humanitarian, Fitness Professional, Executive and much more.

Ogie Shaw is not your ordinary man by any means. Some may say he is an overachiever, I say, more people should strive to be like him.

Ogie Shaw is a true Hero. After serving 4 years in the U.S. Army, he received the Army Commendation Medal for his work in Military Intelligence in Vietnam. He also served as Brigade Fitness Director for the Oregon National Guard. Not surprisingly, he was recruited by the Portland Police Bureau. After only two months he was presented a Commendation by Chief Bruce Baker.

Along with his B.A. degrees in both Speech and Physical Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he also holds a Master of Sacred Ministry Degree from Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Portland, Oregon.  Ogie Shaw was a scholarship participant in the North Carolina Outward Bound School and was presented the 1975 North Carolina State University International Student Award for his work with foreign students.

With determination he continued to better his life. He became an accomplished musician having done studio recordings, TV shows, and international tours. Ogie Shaw is also known for his outstanding football and basketball skills. He studied Karate in Japan, holds a second degree black belt and won first place in the Carolina Karate Tournament.

Obviously, Ogie Shaw could add humanitarian to his long list of accomplishments.  He worked as a counselor for Janis Youth Programs, and served as a volunteer counselor for the Portland Vet Center for the City of Beaverton. He has served for over twenty years as Volunteer Pastor at Patton and Macdonald Retirement Homes in Portland, Oregon.  In both Oregon and Washington, Ogie Shaw has served as speaker at Governor’s Safety Conferences.

Because of his extensive knowledge of Fitness and Health, he has lectured at over a dozen Northwest colleges and universities and has given over 4,000 talks on Fitness Motivation.  In 1979 he designed an off-season program for the Portland Trailblazers and he has served as a consultant and instructor for the Seattle Seahawks in the use of isokinetic-aerobic exercise.

Currently, Ogie Shaw is Executive Director of Community Fitness Leaders, which is a training program for health and fitness professionals, and he is President of Ogie Shaw Fitness in Beaverton, Or..
