NEXT MEETING: THIS WEDNESDAY 5/26
Our next club meeting is this Wednesday, May 26th, at 7:30am. This meeting will be IN-PERSON at the Bluffton Rotary Building. For those members of the club who can't join us in person, we will do our best to live stream the meeting on Facebook; however, we don't always have a club member available at the meeting to run the video. Please log onto Facebook and go to the Bluffton Rotary Club Facebook Page to check on whether we will be live streaming the meeting that morning. Thanks for everyone's patience and understanding. If you would like to volunteer to help at the morning meeting, please reach out to the Club President, Joanie Iaco
At the meeting, we will honor a first responder from our community to show our appreciation for their hardwork and dedication to our community. We will recognize first responder Bluffton Police Department Lieutenant Michael Danyov. When we asked for nominations, we received the following email regarding Lt. Danyov from Captain Donald Chandler:
"This is what Lt. Danyov does for this community and what he means to the department. Prior to joining to the police department, he worked for the Beaufort County Clerk of Courts.  He has always had a servant’s heart. Within the department he has worked in patrol, investigations, training, emergency management and is now assigned as the Lieutenant over Special Operations. He has played a pivotal role as the emergency management Sergeant during all the recent hurricanes, snowstorm and lately the pandemic. He has always kept the safety and well being of the community at the forefront of his duties. Lt. Danyov has overseen all special events within the Town of Bluffton.  Ensuring that these events happen without a hitch and that all guests enjoy their time and leave with long lasting impression of what a wonderful town Bluffton truly is. He has always worked long hours to make this happen. Whether it is meeting with event organizers, transporting cones and barricades, or working the events. Lt. Danyov lives in the Town of Bluffton with his wife and daughter (who is a local high school student).  His son recently graduated college and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army.  In the little free time that he has, he plays on the department soft ball team competing against other local teams.
I believe that Lieutenant Danyov deserves to be recognized because of his continued selfless acts to improve the lives of his teammates and fellow citizens of Bluffton. He does this with a great attitude and without any expectation of being recognized for his actions."
Please join us to honor Lt. Danyov and his tireless service for the citizens of Bluffton!
RECAP:  5/19 MEETING
At our last meeting, Mayor Sulka spoke to the club about the town's upcoming and on-going projects and the development in the area. The Mayor took the time to answer many questions that morning. Much of the focus was on the growth in the area. The big takeway from the Mayor's visit is that town officials are keeping a watchful eye on the growth and any impact it may have on our water and sewer system and ultimately our waterways. Much of the land that is being developed now was purchased by developers over the years, and while we can't prevent them from building on the land, we can make sure they follow the rules when it comes to protecting our most valuable resource: the May River and its tributaries. We also inducted three new members to our cub--welcome Ethan Cox, Rod Brooks, and Chris Forster (pictured in order below). Congrats to the new members!
RECAP: VIRTUAL CLUB DISTRICT CONFERENCE
THE BLUFFTON ROTARY CLUB NAMED RUNNER UP FOR DISTRICT 7770 LARGE CLUB OF THE YEAR!
The District 7770 Conference & Awards were held virtually on May 4th. The winner of our District's large club of the year was the Daniel Island Club, but OUR CLUB WAS RUNNER UP FOR LARGE CLUB OF THE YEAR!! Congrats to the president, board members and all the club members who volunteered their time and efforts to help our club be so successful this year despite many challenges from the pandemic. A special congratulations to our Club President, Joanie Iaco, who won the Make Your Own Mark Award. Joanie attended meetings for several months to discuss ways District 7770 could be 'different.' Joanie suggested some new initiatives for the club from those meetings, in particular, the upcoming First Responders Award to thank a deserving first responder for their service in our community.
Below is a link to the slides from the conference presentation.
