My Family, Your Family, All Families

All families face challenges from time to time, and the holiday time of year sometimes brings on the stress in a way breaks down bonds. Here are some tips for building family unity over the holidays from Family Promise of Beaufort County.

Michelle Harp is the executive director of Family Promise of Beaufort County.

Michelle moved to the Lowcountry in 2021 from Memphis, Tennessee.  Michelle and her family vacationed in Hilton Head several times and fell in love with the area.  When her parents moved to Bluffton from Mt. Pleasant, she decided it was time to make a move as well to be closer to them. Michelle lives in Bluffton with her significant other Kevin.  Her three children are grown and live in different parts of the United States, and one in Iwakuni, Japan.

Michelle has loved being in the nonprofit world for the last 15 years and holds them near and dear to her heart.  Michelle has an Associate’s Degree in Religious Studies and her undergraduate degree  in Child Development and Family Studies.  This degree led her to begin working with families affected by HIV, with Hope House of Memphis.  Michelle was also the Go Red for Women Director at the American Heart Association.  Just prior to relocating to Bluffton, she worked as a Developmental Therapist for babies 0-3, at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Working for the kiddo’s and their families at Family Promise is an honor for Michelle.  Michelle says, “Helping families in need is at the core of who I am and gives me so much joy.”  She is proud to be a part of such a philanthropic community who gives freely and abundantly to those who need it.
