Dave Adams, Director of Athletics at Bluffton High School visited the club on Wednesday, September 29 to update Bluffton Rotarians on the progress of his student athletes.

Six hundred students participate in 40 different sport teams at the school. Academics are extremely important to the department and a district rule mandates that any athlete with a grade of 76 or below - in any subject - attends tutoring sessions one hour after school. A rule which has proven to be valid. Last year the average GPA of all fall sports teams was 3.24, 3.01 for the winter teams and 3.16 for the spring sport teams. In addition, 16 athletic college scholarship were awarded to BHS students last spring.

To supplement their regular practices after school, several teams are also practicing before school and have the opportunity to participate in the school's FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) meetings at 7:15 a.m. All teams have gotten involved working and volunteering for local charities in the community such as Family Promise and Wheel Chair Tennis to name just a few. During October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month - coaches will dress in pink for at least two of their team's matches.

This will no doubt be an exciting year for the program as the school marks it's seventh year since opening in the fall of 2004. Currently both the Varsity and JV football teams are undefeated (5 & 0) - the first time in the history of the school!
